The Independent

I have written several pieces for The Independent, primarily as an online student writer. However, I have had pieces published in print in The Independent, the i and the Independent on Sunday. I have also had pieces published in the Irish Independent. Many of my stories have made the home page of the newspaper’s website.

What happens when a female student in a hot pink top walks through Cairo University?

I wrote a piece about a video I found on social media showing a young woman walking through a university campus in Egypt being sexually harassed. The story garnered over 6,000 shares and was one of the lead stories on the newspaper website’s home page.

Nottingham voted greenest university in the world

I reported on the University of Nottingham being ranked the greenest higher education institution on the planet. It was shared more than 4,000 times and picked up by various news outlets.

Which UK universities are the best for graduate employment? Hint: It’s not Cambridge or Oxford

I looked through a report and wrote a story about the universities being ranked above Oxbridge for their employability. The story was shared more than 5,000 times.

Buckinghamshire New University students fight to save furniture degrees from the chop

I have written a number of stories on behalf of students and students’ unions to raise awareness into important campus-focused issues. At Buckinghamshire New University, I wrote about how furniture degrees were heading for the axe and helped campaigners in their attempts to save them. Similarly, at Leeds Metropolitan University, I helped the Students’ Union President-elect to attempt to revert plans to change the institution’s name to Leeds Beckett University.
